My ancestry has never been very important to me all I have really ever known is that my dad’s side is from england and my grandpa was the first of his family, and only one, to come over to Canada, and that my mom's side has been living in Canada for a very long time dating back before the war of 1812.
My grandpa on my dad's side, told me that he came over to Canada because he wanted to see what it was like to live in Canada and he ended up staying after he met my Grandma. My grandpa told me what it was like to grow up in England and how some things are really different like driving on the opposite side of the road some of the food that he grew up eating like black pudding, which isn’t a pudding but blood sausages a lot of meat pies, with steak chicken and other kinds of meat in them.
On my moms side I found out from my grandmother that my ancestors came over to Canada a very long time ago and even before the war of 1812 and somewhere along the way one of my ancestors married a indigenous person and as i found out my great-grandma was 1/8th Indigenous making me something like 1/12th or something. But my grandma has been trying very hard to make me and my brothers appreciate our indigenous background by making us go to pow wows when one is being held and by finding relatives who are more closely tied to their indigenous background.
